Soccer Youth Programs

Loisaida Youth Soccer (LYS) offers multi-level programming for children ages 5-14 in the Spring, Winter and Fall annually. All programs are taught by US Soccer Federation licensed coaches who play soccer themselves, and many have experience at the college, professional club, and international levels.

LYS utilizes the best of modern child-centered soccer coaching techniques developed by the US Youth Soccer Association, Tony Waiters’ Micro Soccer styled after South-America’s street soccer. Programs include age-appropriate soccer fitness, skills development and discovery learning of the game of soccer.

Programs take place outdoors in the Spring and Fall in Parks Department fields at the East River Park and Houston Street fields and indoors in the Winter at the Boys and Girls Republic gym on 6th St. & Ave. D. Click here to Register Now

About our Saturday and Tuesday Player Development Programs
Introducing a new and improved structure of our programs for Fall 2008, we are providing a richer, more dynamic player experience for children who have played with us previously and newcomers alike. LYS will continue to serve coed groups for ages 5-6 (peewees), 7-8, and 9-10. Both Saturday and Tuesday programs will follow a hybrid version of our Player Development and Recreation Programs (offered for the last five years) that appropriately nurtures, engages and challenges experienced players as well as those who are coming to soccer for the first time. Youth will have a variety of opportunities to work in different subgroups throughout the season according to their experience and skill level with different curriculum activities to suit their needs. This will ensure that beginners get a comfortable grasp of the game and those with prior soccer experience move to the next skill level.

The Downtown Middle School League
Loisaida Youth Soccer is pleased to be entering year two of the Middle-School League for local public schools. Schools including the SALK School of Science, MAT, NEST and TASS M301 played in Fall 2007. We hope to expand this initiative to include eight schools adding East Side Middle, Thompkins Square Middle and more. Schools will bring one girls’ and one boys’ team to the league playing in the East River Park in Fall 2007. Schools can choose the players from youth in Grades 6-8. Teams will play weekly and compete in a round-robin competitive style league. LYS will provide all the policies, paperwork, rules and schedule, offer training to school coaches, organize permit time integrating existing Middle School soccer initiatives. LYS thanks Council Member Rosie Mendez for funding this project and the Department of Education, Parks Department and Community Board #3 for their help. Family Involvement
We recognize that families are the cornerstone of our success and are deeply committed to meeting their needs. Our philosophy is to create a happy, cheerful and positive sporting environment for all. Learning to win and lose with grace is encouraged. Opportunities are available for YOU to volunteer at all levels of the organization. We appreciate the enthusiastic parents who took their first USSF License Fcourse to make them really great volunteers. We are looking looking for young women players/mothers to train to be coaches who have experience playing soccer as role-models for our girls.

Success
The hallmark of success for LYS is if your children choose to play soccer in the park, schoolyard, street, or just for fun. LYS also facilitates the advancement of those players who would like to play at a more competitive level on tournament and travel teams in a collaborative partnership with Downtown United Soccer Club (DUSC) and can help identify other local clubs.
